"I started diving in 1977 when I signed up
for an Open Water Diver class at the Cumberland YMCA. I have been diving and
assisting with the teaching of classes in Cumberland ever since. For me diving
is about enjoying the beauty and marvels of the watery parts of our planet.
Watching new divers become hooked on diving and all it offers is a thrill and a
passion.
I became fascinated with diving while
snorkeling with a friend off Fire Island, NY. I completed a YSCUBA Open Water
Diver class in the spring of 1977 and have never looked back. Over the years I
have taken numerous PADI specialty classes while vacationing. Fish
Identification, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Photography, Rescue Diver,
Drift Diver and Master SCUBA Diver have all further enhanced my skills and my
passion for diving. I completed an Enriched Air Nitrox class in 1998 to better
understand this emerging facet of SCUBA. Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver
soon followed. In 2006 I became a YMCA Divemaster and Assistant Instructor. I
have also completed the Diver Alert Network (DAN) requirements for Dive
Emergency Specialist including General First Aid, First Aid for Hazardous Marine
Life Injuries, CPR and AED, Neurological Assessment for Divers, and Oxygen First
Aid for SCUBA injuries.
In the Cumberland area most of my diving is
in local lakes and quarries helping students complete their check out dives.
What I live for are those opportunities to return to the Florida Keys, Cozumel,
Bonaire, Curacao or the Australian Great Barrier Reef."
